Social Gaming Summit 2012 Berlin

Webit is taking part in the Social Gaming Summit 2012 in Berlin http://www.mediabistro.com/socialgamingsummit/, which is a two-day conference focused on the intersection of mobile gaming, immersive worlds, and social networking. The first day of the conference covered a number of interesting topics, including a keynote speech by Kai Bolik on the future of social games and a comparison of global markets for online games. An interesting panel about investments in social game and virtual goods companies gave insight into what VCs and business angels look at when deciding to invest in a new social games startup. The freemium model in conjunction with a number of user conversion milestones seems to be the predominant model for all startups in the space.

An interesting topic that was discussed was the emergence of social casino sites. Without doubt, the increasing popularity of offerings like Zynga Poker and DoubleDown Casino will attract a variety of newcomers to the industry together with established operators in the online gaming world who want to breakthrough into social media and social casino games. Harry Lang, head of brand marketing at JackpotParty/WMS, and Raf Keustermans, CEO of Plumbee, both agreed that superbly crafted content and overall gaming experience were key to success.

Lively discussions about the emergence of mobile social games and the performance of HTML5 apps compared to native apps still show that there is no clear consensus in the industry about what option leads to the best player experience. The panel moderator, Bret Terrill, helped create a sharp focus with a variety of pointed questions for the speakers.

In Berlin, Webit is showcasing our award winning social mobile game Shake With Me which will be launching with both iPhone, iPad and Android versions in the coming weeks. Shake With Me is a game designed to take advantage of realtime mobile based features and a great social concept that combine together to create a great user experience that requires minimal effort on the part of the user to setup. The game makes use of Facebook’s single sign in model together with custom Open Graph objects and actions. It merges the Facebook functionality with a cloud-based realtime infrastructure provided by the Webit Cloud services. The realtime interaction and challenges between friends and nearby strangers helps create a lively and fun experience.
